PRAYER (Part-2)

Jesus Christ asks us to pray this way,

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. (Matthew chapter 6:9)

This means, our prayer must be in deep reverence and remembrance of Father in heaven through Christ Jesus. It is possible only when you have a love enriched relationship with Father in heaven. There is only one way through which you can honour your Father in heaven as written in Matthew chapter 22:37 (NET), Jesus said to him, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind.” In one word, if you want to have an succesful prayer life, you need to have an unfailing love relationship with Father in heaven through Christ Jesus.

Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. (Matthew chapter 6:10)

This prayer does not come from a human perspective. Ephesians chapter 1:10 (NLT), “This is the plan: At the right time He will bring everything together under the authority of Christ- everything in heaven and on earth.” This is why we are chosen INCHRIST by Father in Heaven. When you go through this you may think, why I should pray this prayer? The answer is THIS PRAYER MAKES US AWARE OF THE PLAN OF FATHER IN HEAVEN. Again, why we should pray? WE SHOULD PRAY BECAUSE WE ARE ASKED TO PRAY.

Give us this day our daily bread. (Matthew chapter 6:11)

After Lord Jesus Christ fasted for forty days and forty nights He was famished. The tempter came and said to Him, “If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.” But He answered, “It’s written, ‘Man doesn’t live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ “(Father in Heaven) (Matthew chapter 4:2-4). Through this word of God we get a picture of what this prayer means. The tempter failed to recognise he is speaking to the living bread, who came down from heaven. In John chapter 6:35, Jesus said to them, “I Am the bread of life. The one who comes to me will never go hungry, and the one who believes in me will never be thirsty.” (He is the living water).

Jesus Christ was not born from the desire of flesh but born of the Spirit of Father God. When we are born of the Spirit of God, spirit of God will give us our daily bread. As a new creation in Christ we need nourishment from Father God, everyday we need to receive from Him. Jesus Christ said ‘I am the living bread that came from heaven.’ The prayer give us today our daily bread means ‘give us today Jesus in our life.’

And forgive us our debts (sins), as we ourselves have forgiven our debtors (sinners). (Matthew chapter 6:12)

Forgiveness is a form of love. We can not forgive our debtors out of hatred but only out of love. This prayer is a self realisation of Father God’s indisputable love through Christ towards us. Father God wants us to come into His presence in Christ with a grateful heart. With the realisation that my Father has forgiven me so should I forgive everyone.

And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. (Matthew chapter 6:13)

Jesus said to His disciples in Matthew chapter 26:41, “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The Spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” This prayer gives us a realisation of how weak we are, the spirit in us is the spirit of sonship but this awesome power is poured into an earthen vessel which is so fragile that we need to watch and pray. I encourage everybody, as long as you are in your flesh, you need to watch your life and you need to pray daily for yourself. You have to pray, ‘dear Father in heaven do not lead me into temptation but deliver me from the evil one, in Jesus name Holy Spirit help me.’ This prayer is part of carrying your daily cross. We are called to be witness like a lamb in the midst of wolves. In this world we have difficulties, it’s a bad world. I assure, His grace is sufficient for you.

For if you forgive others their sins, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, your Heavenly Father will not forgive you your sins. (Matthew 6: 14,15)

We are being asked to forgive others but God the Father is asking us specifically not just to forgive but to forgive their sins. Forgiving somebody and forgiving their sins are two different things. May be you can forgive someone but to forgive someones sin requires Jesus Christ indwelling in you. This word of God gives us an absolute indication of our ultimate dependance on Father God through Christ Jesus. We have no other choice other than to live like Jesus. Because just as Father in heaven has sent Jesus, Jesus has sent us.

In John chapter 20:21 Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. Just as the Father has sent me, I also send you.” And after He said this, He breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone their sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive anyone’s sins, they are not forgiven.”

Once Peter asked Jesus in Matthew chapter 18:21, “Lord how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus said unto him, I say not unto thee, until seven times: but, until seventy times seven. Father God has set us an example of forgiveness. I pray, you will have the mind to forgive the sins of others.

For thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen

Lords prayer teaches us about unfailing love towards our Father in Heaven through Christ Jesus. For those who love Him, His name is Holy. Lords prayer makes us aware of plans of Father God through Christ Jesus. Through Christ Jesus everything in heaven and earth will become one. It teaches us to ask Father God to give Jesus as our daily bread. It teaches us that since my Father in heaven has forgiven me my sins I should also forgive everyone. This prayer gives me the realisation of how weak I am, that makes me pray lead us not into temptation but deliver me from all evil. At the same time this prayer gives me an understanding of our Father in heaven through Christ Jesus who has set me as an example of God’s forgiveness of sin. For thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
